What can I say about our boy. He was born early May and has always been a sweet, gentle boy. We have had him since a day old and these are our first chickens. He has been crowing for about 6 weeks and has recently started dancing for the ladies, enthusiastically calls the girls when he finds something yummy, and when I gave them banana yesterday, he was taking pieces and giving it to each hen before he ate himself. They have started mating and we had our first egg yesterday. Unfortunately he jumped on my daughter last night while she was feeding our younger hens (still separated). I’m not familiar with roosters, so I don’t know if this was territorial or protective of the hens, or wanting to dominate. This afternoon we had a second incident, while my daughter was giving some treats to the older hens, he went at her again. Obviously we can’t keep a bird that is going to attack my child. I think he will be a great flock protector.
