The Official Rufus Goofus

Our sponsor for October 2026.

Tracie Boudreault is a fellow Maritimer from Newfoundland with a HUGE heart for roosters. I met her online when the Registry first launched. She contacted me to offer help in any way she could, and as we chatted, she excitedly shared pictures and videos of her beloved roosters.

One of them was Rufus, a disabled rooster she took everywhere with her. She told me she was writing a book about him, and now Rufus and His Magical Beard is finished and available to order on Amazon! I couldn’t be happier for Tracie.

I’m so grateful she chose to support the Registry, and I love that I get to introduce you to the rooster who inspired her book.

Rufus and His Magical Beard is a heartwarming children’s story about kindness, compassion, finding the magic within ourselves, and learning that being a little different can be something truly wonderful.

A note from Tracie:

Rufus Goofus was a tiny rooster with a very big personality and an even bigger impact. He became a much loved member of our little Newfoundland homestead, despite being a little different from the rest of the flock. Rufus was unable to use his legs, but that certainly never stopped him from living a full life, going on adventures, meeting people, and stealing hearts everywhere he went.

What started as sharing the antics of one very special little rooster has grown into something much bigger. Rufus inspired my children’s book, Rufus and His Magical Beard, which celebrates kindness, compassion and the idea that being different doesn’t make you any less wonderful.

Rufus showed us just how much personality, love and value a rooster can have when someone gives him a chance. Supporting the Rooster Registry feels like a beautiful extension of his story and everything he represented.

Rufus was an original Goofus, an excellent beard model, and proof that sometimes the most unexpected little creatures leave the biggest footprints.
