Helping the Feathered Gentlemen of Nova Scotia Find Their Flock
Because Facebook groups were not built for this.
The Rooster Registry is a community matchmaking platform for roosters and other feathered gentlemen across Nova Scotia – drakes, ganders, jakes/toms, and quail roos are welcome too! It was built from one very simple idea: not every boy can stay, but that doesn’t mean he should be out of options.
I’ve always loved roosters. In fact, I built an entire chicken village just so I could keep all of mine. Eleven coops later, I’ve accepted that I may not be the best person to define the word “reasonable.” Still, I know most poultry keepers can’t keep every boy that hatches out. Sometimes zoning rules get involved. Sometimes neighbours complain. Sometimes you hatch 10 roosters and 2 hens. Sometimes the flock dynamic just isn’t working anymore. Even the good boys – the friendly ones who follow you around and love snuggles – end up needing new homes.
Trying to rehome birds in Facebook groups is chaos. Birds get buried in comment sections, posts disappear, and people make snide comments about eating the guy you’re desperate to find a home for. It’s a hot mess. Technically rehoming animals isn’t even allowed there anyway so, on top of all of that, everyone is speaking in code trying not to get caught too.
The Rooster Registry was created to make things easier. It’s a dedicated place where feathered bachelors can be seen, shared (even in Facebook groups if you want that craziness), and hopefully matched with the right flock. Think of it as Tinder for poultry, just with more crowing and no swiping required.
Whether you’re trying to responsibly rehome a well-loved rooster or searching for the perfect gentleman to add to your flock, welcome to the village.
And, yes, before you ask me to take your boy – my chicken village is still full!

How It Works
A simple way to help feathered gentlemen find their next flock.
Create a Listing
Add your feathered gentleman to the Registry. Include photos, breed (if known), age, location, and a bit about his personality. Does he like to be carried around? Is romaine lettuce his favorite snack? Make sure you include that too!
Be honest about his faults (if he has some). If you want him to find a home where he will thrive his new owners need to know the good and the bad.
Browse Eligible Bachelors
People looking to add to their flock can browse available roosters, drakes, ganders, jakes/toms, and quail boys in their area.
Search by location, species, breed, size, traits, special considerations, and price to find the right match for your flock.
Make a Match
If someone finds a bachelor who fits their flock, they reach out directly to arrange details. No swiping. No algorithms. Just actual conversations between people.
You will receive an email notification if someone contacts you about your bachelor. Add krystal@theroosterregisty.com to your contacts list to make sure those emails don’t end up in your junk/spam folder!
Rehome Responsibly
Arrange pickup, ask questions, and make sure it’s a good fit on both sides. The goal is simple, finding a good home for a bird that isn’t able to stay where he is.
If you’re looking for birds to use to feed your family, this is not the place for that. People are listing their boys here in hopes of finding them loving homes – not stewpots.
If you’re trying to feed your family with excess poultry, I’d be happy to add you to my list of people who take birds for processing. Just reach out and ask!
