Privacy Policy
Your privacy matters here. This page explains what information is collected, how it’s used, and what happens behind the scenes when you list or browse roosters and other feathered gentlemen on this site.
Who We Are
Our website address is: https://theroosterregistry.com
The Rooster Registry is a community platform for listing and rehoming roosters, drakes, ganders, quail, and other backyard poultry across Nova Scotia.
What We Collect
When you use The Rooster Registry, we may collect a few types of information:
• Account details if you register (such as username and email address)
• Information you add to listings (photos, location, breed, temperament, and other details about your boy)
• Basic technical data needed for the site to function properly (cookies, session data, and login information)
We do not sell, trade, or use your personal information for advertising.
Comments
If comments are enabled on parts of the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, along with your IP address and browser information to help prevent spam.
An anonymized string (a “hash”) from your email address may be sent to the Gravatar service to check if you use it. You can view their privacy policy here: https://automattic.com/privacy/
Once approved, your comment and any associated profile image may be visible publicly.
Media Uploads
If you upload images to the site, avoid including embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors to the site may be able to download images and extract location data if it exists.
Cookies
Cookies help the Registry function properly.
We use cookies to:
• keep users logged in
• remember basic preferences
• support site functionality
If you leave a comment (where enabled), you may opt in to saving your name, email, and website in cookies for convenience. These last for one year.
When you visit the login page, a temporary cookie may be set to check whether your browser accepts cookies. It contains no personal data and is removed when you close your browser.
When you log in, additional cookies are created to manage your session and display settings. Login cookies typically last two days, or two weeks if you select “Remember Me.” Logging out removes them.
Embedded Content
Pages on this site may include embedded content (such as videos, images, or articles).
Embedded content behaves the same way as if you visited the original website directly. Those sites may collect data, use cookies, and track interaction according to their own privacy policies.
Who We Share Your Data With
We do not sell or share your personal data for marketing.
If you request a password reset, your IP address may be included in the reset email for security purposes.
We also use trusted services (such as hosting providers and security tools like Google reCAPTCHA) to keep the site running safely. These services may process limited data required for functionality and spam prevention.
Google reCAPTCHA
The Rooster Registry uses Google reCAPTCHA to protect the site from spam and automated abuse.
reCAPTCHA may collect technical information such as your IP address and browser behaviour. This is handled under Google’s Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
How Long We Retain Your Data
If you create an account or submit a listing, we store that information as long as your account or listing remains active.
If you leave comments (where enabled), they and their metadata are retained indefinitely so we can automatically recognize and approve follow-up comments instead of holding them in moderation.
Registered users can view, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except username changes). Site administrators can also access and manage this information for maintenance and moderation.
What Rights You Have Over Your Data
If you have an account or have left content on the site, you can request:
• a copy of the personal data we hold about you
• correction of inaccurate information
• deletion of your account or listings
We may retain certain data where required for legal, administrative, or security reasons.
Where Your Data Is Sent
Visitor submissions (including comments and form entries) may be checked through automated spam detection services.
We also rely on standard hosting and security infrastructure to keep the Registry running smoothly and safely.
A Note From The Registry
The Rooster Registry is built for backyard poultry people doing their best in situations that are sometimes difficult and complicated.
We only collect what we need to make the platform work, keep it secure, and help feathered gentlemen find better flocks.
